The Dhaka University Alumni Association UK celebrated its 10th anniversary with a grand reunion in London, uniting over 300 former students for a day of memories, inspiration and cultural festivities.
The event, held on Saturday at Sir James Hawkey Hall in Woodford, was attended by distinguished guests including Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury as chief guest and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Abida Islam as special guest, said a press release.
In his keynote speech, BIDA Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury praised the alumni for their achievements and global impact, noting that Dhaka University graduates abroad play a key role in advancing Bangladesh’s development, investment potential and global image. “The role of Dhaka University alumni abroad is truly unique,” he said, urging them to take a more active part in the country’s investment and development efforts.
High Commissioner Abida Islam lauded the alumni for their professional success and dedication to community service, describing them as “ambassadors of Bangladesh’s brilliance, leadership and cultural heritage.” She expressed hope that their unity would foster greater collaboration in education, research and investment between Bangladesh and the UK.
The event was presided over by association president Dr Md Mosaddeque Hossain Biswash Dambel and addressed by General Secretary Khaled Millat, Trustee Board Chair Adhir Ranjan Das and 10th Anniversary Convener Syeda Saima Ahmed.
Founding members, executive committee representatives and alumni from across the UK joined the celebration, which featured interactive sessions, nostalgic reflections on campus life and a vibrant cultural evening.
US-based singer Arzeen Kamal performed along with traditional and contemporary dance and folk music performances, adding colour to the occasion.
