The court has ordered three associates of former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and three assistant general managers (AGM) of Aramit PSC to be placed on a 10-day remand in two corruption cases. Furthermore, they have been shown arrested in two more ACC cases. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez passed these orders on Thursday.
The accused are Md. Abdul Aziz (39), owner of Imperial Trading and AGM of Aramit PLC; Mohammad Jahangir Alam (54), owner of Classic Trading and AGM of Aramit PLC; and Utpal Pal (51), AGM of Aramit PLC.
ACC Public Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi confirmed this information. He stated that Saifuzzaman, using the accused, embezzled money from various banks and financial institutions and laundered it abroad. For this reason, in two ACC cases filed against them, each has been placed on a 10-day remand (five days each) and they have been shown arrested in two other cases.
They were produced in court today, where the investigating officers applied for a 14-day remand (seven days each) in two cases. We, the state counsel, argued in favour of the remand. The lawyers for the accused sought bail and opposed the remand.
On 28 September, ACC Assistant Director Md Rubel Hossain, as the plaintiff, filed a case against eight individuals. Additionally, on 22 September, ACC Assistant Director Md Shojib Ahmed, as the plaintiff, filed another case against eight individuals.
