The autopsies of the bodies of 10 people killed in the fire at the chemical godown in Mirpur, Dhaka, have been completed. Prior to this, six bodies were autopsied on Wednesday.
The autopsies of the bodies were completed at the Dhaka Medical College morgue from noon to 5:30pm on Thursday. The autopsy was conducted by Dr Ayesha Parvin, lecturer of the Forensic Medicine Department. Shubho Joy Baidya, a lab examiner from the CID Forensic unit, was present with her.
The lab examiner said, “The autopsies of 10 bodies have been completed today. Bones and tissues have been collected from them for DNA testing. Samples were collected from 6 bodies yesterday. Furthermore, the claimants of the bodies have gone to the Malibagh CID lab and submitted their samples.”
Earlier, the inquest report of the bodies was prepared by Sub-Inspector (SI) Mokhlesur Rahman Laskar of Rupnagar Police Station. He said, “The autopsies of 10 bodies have been completed today. Among them, seven are unidentified. Their ages are estimated to be between 20 and 40 years. Among the unidentified, one is female and 6 are male. The others are: Mukta Begum (30), Farzana Akter (15), and another girl also named Farzana Akter (16).”
The SI said, “Additionally, multiple claimants have been found for 2/3 bodies. DNA samples are being collected from all the bodies and from the claimants. Yesterday, on Wednesday, autopsies and DNA sample collection were done for 6 bodies. The bodies will be handed over to the relatives after the DNA sample reports arrive.”
