Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that police will not use lethal weapons anymore.

“A decision has been made not to allow lethal weapons with on-duty police personnel at the field level,” he said after the 9th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order held at the ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat on Monday.

The adviser informed that the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be reorganised. “RAB will be reorganised. A committee has been formed for this restructuring.”

He also addressed garment workers’ issues, saying, “Garment workers’ salaries and allowances must be paid before Eid. However, their ‘illegal demands’ will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken.”

Regarding extortion, he said, “To stop extortion in cattle markets, 100 Ansar members will be deployed at each bazar. Instructions have been given to ensure smooth travel for traders and prevent toll collection on roads.”
