Ex-Naogaon MP Omar Faruk arrested in Dhaka

Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested five Awami League activists, including former member of parliament for the Naogaon-6 constituency Md Omar Faruk Sumon on Thursday.

The arrests took place around 2:30am in Mohammadpur area of the capital. The identities of four other detainees have yet to be disclosed.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, confirmed the operation and said, “Former MP Md Omar Faruk and four others connected to the Awami League and its associate organisations have been arrested. Further details will be shared later.”

Faruk was elected as an independent candidate from Naogaon-6 in the January 2024 general election.
