Jamaat-e-Islami has announced the second phase of its programmes, issuing a five-point demand including holding the National Parliament election under the proportional representation (PR) system, the implementation of the July Charter, and a ban on Jatiya Party (JaPa).
The party’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar announced the programmes at a press conference held at the Al Falah Milonayatan in Mogbazar, Dhaka, on Tuesday.
The programmes include: Public outreach in favour of the demands from 1 to 9 October, mass processions in Dhaka and other divisional cities on October 10, and submissions of memorandums at the District Administrator’s office on October 12.
Present at the press conference were Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Abdul Halim, AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, and Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer.
Earlier, at around 11:30am, Secretary General of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Maulana Yunus Ahmad, announced identical programmes at a press conference organised at its central office in Purana Paltan.
At the press conference, Maulana Yunus Ahmad said that they are refraining from street programmes initially due to the ongoing Durga Puja festivities.
The demands of the two parties include: Holding the next parliament election based on the July Charter, introducing the PR system, ensuring equal opportunities for all parties participating in the election, ensuring visible justice for all oppression, persecution, genocide, and corruption of the fascist government, and banning the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-Party Alliance, who are accomplices of authoritarian Awami League.
The same demands were pursued in the first phase of programmes by Jamaat, Islami Andolan, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Bangladesh Nizam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Khilafat Andolon, and Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA).
These parties held protest processions and rallies in the capital on 18 September, in all divisional cities of the country on 19 September, and in districts and upazilas on 26 September.
