Israeli attacks on Gaza early Wednesday left 42 people dead and many more wounded, according to local health officials.
Gaza’s Civil Defense reported that an air raid on displaced families in the Al-Daraj area of Gaza City killed 22 people, among them nine children and six women, with numerous others injured. Medical staff later confirmed that two additional residents were killed when a nearby apartment block came under shelling, reports agencies.
In other parts of Gaza City, five people died in Sabra and others were injured. In Al-Ramla neighbourhood, another civilian was killed.
In Tel Hawa, an Israeli strike on a vehicle carrying displaced Palestinians killed two and injured several others.
The Israeli army said on Sunday that it was stepping up ground operations in Gaza City, expanding its campaign launched on 11 August under a government plan to gradually take control of the territory.
In central Gaza, raids on two homes inside the Nuseirat refugee camp claimed five lives and left many wounded, including women and children. Meanwhile, in Rafah, five Palestinians seeking aid were shot dead near a distribution point.
Since October 2023, Israeli military actions in Gaza have killed over 65,300 people, the majority women and children. The continuing assaults have devastated the territory, causing mass displacement, starvation, and disease.
