Rupganj Thana Police arrested a young man named Pritom Das (21) on Saturday night, from the Ichapura area of Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj, over allegations of making offensive comments on social media platform Facebook about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Ayesha (RA).
Pritom Das is the son of Swapan Das from the same area. He is a student in the CSE department at North South University.
Police stated that around 11:30pm on September 20, an offensive comment regarding the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Ayesha (RA) began circulating on social media. Local residents became enraged upon seeing such comments on Pritom Das’s Facebook profile.
During initial interrogation, he admitted to making various offensive remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Ayesha (RA) from his Facebook account. Regarding this matter, SI Tapas Kund of Rupganj Thana filed a case against Pritom Das as the plaintiff.
OC Mohammad Tarikul Islam of Rupganj Thana said, “Pritom Das has been arrested for making comments on social media platform Facebook that could hurt religious sentiments. He has been sent to the Narayanganj Court.”
