Sri Lanka batting coach Thilina Kandamby said his team are well aware of both the strengths and weaknesses of Bangladesh ahead of their Asia Cup Super Four clash on Saturday.
Sri Lanka sealed their place in the Super Four after defeating Afghanistan, while Bangladesh qualified thanks to Afghanistan’s exit. With the two sides set to face off in their opening Super Four fixture, Kandamby suggested experience from recent meetings will be key.
“We have played Bangladesh quite often,” he told reporters. “In the last three or four months alone, we have met four or five times. So we know their strengths and weaknesses and I am sure our boys will put up a good fight.”
Kandamby also praised the progress of the Bangladesh side, who came into the Asia Cup on the back of three successive series victories. He emphasised that Sri Lanka’s players would need to draw upon their knowledge and preparation to make the difference.
“Bangladesh have a good team and they have been playing very competitive cricket in recent months,” he said. “Our boys know them well. We know their strengths and weaknesses and will look to make the best use of that.”
Reflecting further on Bangladesh’s consistency, Kandamby added: “They have been playing tough cricket for the last six months. If our boys can execute their plans properly, I believe we can win.”
