A housewife has given birth to two boys and two girls through a cesarean section at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Dr Taslima Begum, associate professor and head of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Unit at the hospital, led the operation on Monday around 10:30am.
Speaking to TIMES of Bangladesh, Dr Taslima explained that this was a case of quadruplet pregnancy, meaning the woman gave birth to four babies simultaneously, a highly complex and risky situation.
Dr Taslima further mentioned that they had suspected four babies early on and had kept the mother admitted to the hospital for the past two months. However, she refrained from revealing the mother’s identity.
At birth, the babies’ weights were lower than usual. One baby weighed 1.4 kg, another 1.3 kg, and the remaining two each weighed 1.2 kg. Typically, a healthy newborn’s weight is between 2.8 kg and 2.9 kg.
Currently, both the mother and the four babies are in good health, with the infants placed in the hospital’s pediatric ward.
It is worth mentioning that on April 27, a woman named Nahida Akter Rikta from Feni gave birth to five babies at CMCH. Additionally, on May 10, housewife Mariam from Cox’s Bazar delivered six babies at National Hospital in the city.
