The Fire Service and Civil Defence conducted a training session on septic tank risks and safety measures on September 9, 2025, for construction workers at a 16-story building under construction by Shanta Holdings in Gulshan-2.
Seventy-five workers participated in the session.
The event featured Mohammad Saleh Uddin, deputy director of the Dhaka Division of the Fire Service, and Assistant Director Kazi Nojmuljaman. Shanta Holdings’ Chief Project Management Officer (Retd) Major Hafiz Al Asad also addressed the gathering.
The session included theoretical discussions followed by demonstrations on how to use smoke ejectors and air ventilators to manage harmful gases in septic tanks. Firefighting techniques, including handling gas cylinder fires, were also practiced.
The training ended at 1:00 PM. It follows a fatal incident in Munshiganj on August 31, where three workers died while cleaning a septic tank. According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, 228 people have died in septic tank and sewer line accidents over the past five years.
