Two people were killed and two others critically injured when a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a truck near the Singair bus stand in Manikganj on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:00am near the Proshika intersection. The deceased were identified as Abdul Mannan, 23, son of Md Parvez Uddin of Nilua village in Daulatpur upazila, and Monir Hossain, 60, son of Sheikhjan Mollah from Jhitka in Harirampur upazila.
Singair Police Station Officer-in-Charge J.O.M Tawfiq Azam said the auto-rickshaw, carrying four passengers, was heading towards Dhaka when it was struck by a cement-laden truck near the bus stand.
Mannan and Monir died on the spot, while the two other passengers, severely injured, were rushed to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The truck driver and his helper fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police are preparing to file a case in connection with the incident.
