In a violent attack late Wednesday night, top gangster Rubel (35) was shot and hacked to death by unidentified assailants in the Padua Union area of Rangunia, Chattogram. The incident occurred near Harualchhari Eco Park, in a residential house.
Police confirmed that Rubel, son of local resident Rafiqul Islam, was targeted along with his associates. One of his accomplices, Mohammad Morshed (28), sustained severe injuries in the attack, while another associate, Azim, narrowly escaped by fleeing upon hearing gunshots. The police recovered Rubel’s body on Thursday morning and sent it for autopsy at Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
Local sources said that between 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM on Wednesday, Rubel and his associates were inside the house when a group of armed men launched the attack. The assailants first fired shotgun rounds from outside the house. Hearing the gunshots, Azim fled, but the attackers then entered the house, stabbing Rubel with sharp weapons and shooting him to death.
An initial inspection of the body showed multiple injuries: a gunshot wound on his left hand, a slashed throat, a partially severed left wrist, injuries to his testicles, and cuts on his left leg. Rubel died at the scene.
Morshed, Rubel’s accomplice, also suffered sharp weapon wounds and is currently receiving treatment at CMC Hospital. The police have seized Morshed’s mobile phone for investigation.
South Rangunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sabbir Mohammad Selim told TIMES of Bangladesh that an initial report was filed, and the body was sent for autopsy. Azim was brought to the police station but could not identify the attackers.
