The soundtrack to ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ has carved out a place in Billboard history, becoming the first film soundtrack ever to secure four songs simultaneously in the top 10 of the Hot 100.
Leading the charge, ‘Golden’ holds onto the No. 1 spot for a second consecutive week, having knocked Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary’ from the summit.
Three other soundtrack cuts join it in the top tier: ‘Your Idol’ remains steady at No. 4, ‘Soda Pop’ leaps five places to No. 5 and ‘How It’s Done’ makes its top 10 debut at No. 10.
While iconic compilations such as ‘Waiting to Exhale’ in the 1990s produced multiple chart hits, none have ever achieved four top 10 placements simultaneously. Billboard points out that the last time a soundtrack came close was in 1978, when ‘Saturday Night Fever’ managed three tracks in the top five.
Golden continues to dominate streaming, claiming the top spot on the Streaming Songs chart for a fifth straight week. It also made strides on radio, with airplay up 39 per cent to 16.2 million impressions, though it remains at No. 42 on the Radio Songs chart.
Analysts suggest its streaming power alone is enough to keep the track secure at No. 1 in the coming weeks.
The chart surge coincides with the film’s theatrical sing-along screenings, which gave KPop Demon Hunters an extra boost at the weekend box office, where it claimed the No. 1 spot.
