Fifteen members of National Citizen Party’s Nakla Upazila Co-ordination Committee have resigned en masse. The resigning members, which include five joint coordinators and 10 general members, have also publicly rejected the legitimacy of the entire 32-member committee.
The mass resignation was announced through a press release circulated on social media Tuesday night. The joint coordinators who stepped down are Md Mominul Islam Arab, Monirul Islam Monir, Sirajul Islam Sohag, Rashidul Zaman Russell, and Jasim Uddin.
The press release cited severe dissatisfaction with the recently appointed Upazila Chief Coordinator Humayun Kabir Akash, labelling him as “incompetent, unprincipled, and socially unacceptable.”
Following a period of deep introspection, the group stated they collectively decided to resign the committee, urging the central leadership to take immediate organisational action.
Echoing the sentiment, former joint coordinator Md Mominul Islam Arab alleged, “There are accusations against Humayun Kabir of taking money from a martyr’s family. His educational qualifications are also questionable. It is impossible to work under the leadership of an incompetent person, which is why we all resigned.”
The 32-member committee for Nakla was officially approved on August 10 by the central convening committee.
However, since its announcement, the committee faced intense scrutiny and criticism on social media, with widespread discontent among supporters.
Rumours of a mass resignation had been circulating from the outset, culminating in this decisive action.
