Former Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes has strongly condemned recent reports suggesting he stopped playing for Khulna Tigers in the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after receiving a spot-fixing approach.

Imrul featured in only four matches for Khulna in the tournament. In recent days, certain online portals claimed that he withdrew from the team due to a fixing offer — a claim he has dismissed as “completely false and baseless.”

Posting from his official social media account on the evening of 12 august, Imrul addressed the headline: “Imrul stopped playing for Khulna after receiving a fixing offer.”

“I have seen in some online portals that it is being claimed I was offered fixing by Khulna Tigers. This claim is completely false and baseless. After a few BPL matches, the BCB began an investigation, and during that discussion, the topic of fixing came up,” he wrote.

Imrul clarified that injury was the only reason behind his limited appearances in the last BPL, firmly denying any link to match-fixing.

“I played for Khulna Tigers and, after a few matches, could not take the field due to injury. I hope my statement makes the matter clear to everyone,” he said.

The 37-year-old also urged journalists and online media outlets to ensure accuracy when reporting sensitive matters.

“My humble request to the media and online portals is to ensure transparency and responsibility when publishing news.”
