Traffic congestion is expected in several key areas of Dhaka on Sunday due to overlapping political events, cultural programs, and public examinations.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued an advisory warning that large gatherings around Shahbagh, Shaheed Minar, and Suhrawardy Udyan could disrupt vehicle movement throughout the day.
From noon to 6pm, the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will hold a rally at Shahbagh marking the first anniversary of the July-August Uprising.
At the same time, the National Citizen Party (NCP) will stage a public gathering at Shaheed Minar demanding implementation of the “July Declaration.”
Separately, a cultural festival titled “July Jagoron” will run from morning to night at Suhrawardy Udyan, part of a multi-day event that continues through August 4.
Besides these programs, Sunday also includes HSC and equivalent exams, along with BCS examinations scheduled in various centres across the city. The combination of events and exams is likely to create heavy traffic in central parts of Dhaka.
To manage the situation, the DMP has advised alternative routes. Traffic approaching Shahbagh from the north should use Hare Road or Mintu Road. Vehicles from Katabon are advised to go via Nilkhet or Banglamotor Link Road.
Those coming from the High Court area should divert via Mansur Ali Sarani. Northbound vehicles heading to Shahbagh through the Kakrail-Fisheries Building route should use Kadam Fountain, Gulistan, or University routes. Commuters near TSC and Raju Sculpture are advised to take Nilkhet or Doel Chattar roads. Roads around Shaheed Minar and Suhrawardy Udyan should be avoided if possible.
The DMP has urged examinees to start early for their test centres to avoid delays due to possible gridlocks.
