The government has decided to confer state honours on two teachers who lost their lives in the tragic fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka. The decision was made during a regular meeting of the Advisory Council held Thursday morning at the Office of the Chief Adviser.
A statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said that the form and official protocol for the honours will be determined soon.
At the beginning of the meeting, a condolence motion was adopted to honor the memory of the victims. A minute of silence was observed, and special prayers were offered for the departed souls.
The two teachers of Milestone School and College who died are – Mehrin Chowdhury, 44, and Masuka Begum, 38.

The council also decided to ensure full government support for the families of the deceased and for the medical treatment of the injured. The Ministry of Education will coordinate with the school authorities to take the necessary follow-up actions.
Additionally, special prayers will be held in all religious institutions across the country on Friday for the souls of the deceased and the recovery of the injured. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has been tasked with organizing and coordinating the observance.
The government’s actions are being viewed as a gesture of deep sympathy and solidarity with the families affected by the devastating tragedy.
On July 21, a Bangladesh Air Force FT-7 BGI training fighter jet lost control and crashed into Milestone School and College in Uttara. So far, 32 people have been confirmed dead—some at the scene and others later in hospital—while over 160 people have been injured, most of them students.
Eyewitnesses reported that the two teachers died while trying to rescue students trapped under the rubble. The deceased have been identified as Mehrin Chowdhury (44) and Masuka Begum (38), both teachers at Milestone School and College.
