Sailor Presents Checkmate Narayanganj 2025 Inter-School Chess Tournament took place on Sunday, 20th July, at the Mohsin Club in Narayanganj. The event drew 60 students from various schools across Bangladesh and featured three age categories: Under-10, Under-14, and Under-18.
Nine-year-old chess prodigy Rayan Rashid Mugdho stole the spotlight, competing in the Under-18 category despite being eligible for Under-10. The tournament’s highest-rated player (IRtg 2131), Mugdho, from South Point School, claimed the championship with an unbeaten run, reaffirming his growing stature in the national chess scene.
In the Under-10 category, Mohammad Mabrur Raadh (IRtg 1435) of Philosophia School took the top spot. Safayat Kibria Azaan, the second-highest-rated player (IRtg 1900), won the Under-14 title representing South Point School.
Speaking to The Daily Times of Bangladesh, Mugdho said: “I will now prepare for an international tournament which is coming within two months. My dream is to become a grandmaster and world champion.”
Syed Shujauddin Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, attended the event as chief guest and distributed the prizes. With the most wins and points across all divisions, South Point School was named ‘Best School of the Tournament’.
