Bangladesh batter Shadman Islam was taken to hospital for an MRI scan after twisting his left ankle while trying to prevent a boundary on the second day of the Sylhet Test against West Indies on Friday.
Shadman was visibly in pain and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher. Jaker Ali Anik came on as his substitute fielder.
Bangladesh team manager Nafees Iqbal confirmed to TIMES that Shadman had been taken to hospital for an MRI scan. National team physiotherapist Bayejedul Islam Khan later said that Shadman had twisted his ankle and was under observation.
“Shadman has suffered an ankle twist. He is currently under observation, and we will send him for an MRI scan,” Bayejedul said in a voice message.
The injury occurred on the first ball of the 78th over in the first session. Amir Jangoo glanced a full delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz towards fine leg, prompting Shadman to sprint towards the boundary to cut off the ball.
As he bent down to collect it, his left foot appeared to get stuck on the ground and twist. He immediately went down in pain and was unable to continue.
