Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has honoured the winners of the Sfuron: Sustainable Energy Idea Contest 2026, recognising five innovative solutions aimed at advancing sustainable energy in Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister attended the award ceremony as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026, where he presented awards to the country’s leading sustainable energy innovators.
The Sfuron idea contest was jointly organised by the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), the European Union and German Development Cooperation through GIZ.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the competition aimed to promote the National Renewable Energy Development Strategy Paper (RESP) 2026–2030. The strategy sets a target of generating 10,450MW of renewable energy by 2030 and saving 15 per cent of energy across households, industries and the commercial sector.
Following a multi-stage evaluation process and live pitch presentations before an expert jury board, five pioneering solutions were awarded across three competition categories.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman praised the young innovators and professionals for their contributions, emphasising that a single innovative idea could become a “game changer” for Bangladesh.
