An elderly woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her son at their apartment in the capital’s Dhanmondi area early Saturday. Police have detained the son in connection with the killing.
The victim was identified as Afia Akter, 68, while the detained son is Tahsin Arif, 30.
The incident took place at a flat on Road 9/A between 5:30am and 6am, according to police.
Mohammad Touhidur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station, said the housemaid and local residents told police during questioning that Tahsin had repeatedly stabbed his mother during that period.
The woman suffered bleeding injuries to her face and throat, he said.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, the police official added.
