At least 20 people were injured when a Saudia Paribahan bus overturned in Chandanaish on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway early Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 4:30am in the Khandighi Shikaripara area, north of Bagichahat in Chandanaish upazila. The injured were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, while several critically injured passengers were later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

The identities of the injured could not be confirmed immediately. The bus remained on the highway for some time, causing a long tailback as hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road.

Police from Dohazari Highway Police Station reached the scene and took steps to manage the situation. The damaged bus was later removed from the highway with the help of a recovery vehicle and a crane. Around 30 to 40 local youths assisted police during the rescue and recovery operation.

Mohammad Nurul Absar, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway Police Station, said traffic movement resumed after the bus was removed from the highway.
