Bulgarian wicketkeeper-batsman Manan Bashir etched his name into cricket’s record books on Saturday after smashing six sixes in a single over during a T20 International against Gibraltar.
The stunning feat, achieved by only a handful of players in the history of international cricket, came during the final of a tri-nation T20 series in Sofia, which also featured Turkey. Batting second at the National Sports Academy ground, Bulgaria were already in a strong position on 157 for 2 after 15 overs, chasing a target of 195.
Gibraltar captain Iain Latin turned to Kabir Mirpuri to bowl the 16th over, a decision that backfired dramatically. Bashir, who was on strike, launched all six deliveries of the over into the stands, reaching the 200 mark in style and sealing victory for his side with 21 balls to spare.
With this performance, Bashir became just the sixth cricketer to hit six sixes in a single over in international cricket. He joins an elite club that includes South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs, India’s Yuvraj Singh, West Indies’ Kieron Pollard, USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra and Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee.
This display was not an isolated show of power from Bashir. Since making his international debut in May 2024 against the same opposition, the 25-year-old right-hander has emerged as one of Bulgaria’s most destructive batters. In just eight T20Is, he has scored 262 runs at an average of 43.66, with a remarkable strike rate of 267.34. He has already cleared the ropes 31 times in international cricket, and when combined with domestic matches, his career six tally stands at 175.
While several cricketers have managed this feat in domestic or franchise cricket, including iconic names like Sir Garfield Sobers and Ravi Shastri, doing so on the international stage remains a rare and celebrated achievement. Manan Bashir’s name now stands proudly among some of the most explosive players to have played the game.
