Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has filed two cases and collected Tk6,000 in fines during an operation against illegal vehicle parking on the country’s first bicycle track in Patenga.
One vehicle was also seized during the drive, which was conducted on Sunday from 10am to 1pm.
CCC took the initiative to curb illegal parking on the cycle track and ensure uninterrupted movement for cyclists.
According to CCC sources, the two cases were filed for illegal parking under the Road Transport Act, 2018.
The drive was led by CCC Zonal Executive Officer Pronoy Chakma.
CCC Zone-5 Zonal Executive Officer Subol Chakma, along with relevant zonal officers, superintendents, ward supervisors, and members of CCC’s striking force, were present during the operation. Officers from Patenga Police Station aided during the drive.
Constructed under CCC’s initiative in the Patenga area, the country’s first bicycle track was created to facilitate safe and unhindered movement for cyclists. However, there had been complaints that illegal vehicle parking was disrupting its regular use.
Concerned authorities said such operations will continue to ensure the proper use of the cycle track, prevent illegal parking, and maintain a safe cycling environment for city residents.
