West Indies pulled off the highest ODI run chase in their history as Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162 powered them to a five wicket win over India in the third ODI on Saturday.

The visitors chased down a target of 352, reaching 352 for five to stop India from completing a clean sweep in the series.

India made a poor start after being asked to bat first. Shubman Gill fell early before Virat Kohli was bowled for a golden duck. Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad then led the recovery. Rohit scored 92, while Gaikwad added 57.

KL Rahul took control in the later stages. He reached his hundred from 80 balls and remained unbeaten on 129. His late attack pushed India to 351 for seven.

West Indies began their chase with intent. Mohammed Siraj gave India their first breakthrough when he removed John Campbell for 10. Hope then built a strong partnership with Amir Jangoo. Jangoo scored 67 before India ran him out.

Hope kept West Indies in the chase despite India taking wickets at the other end. He completed his century from 104 balls and continued to find boundaries when his side needed them.

The West Indies captain later reached 150 and stayed at the crease to finish the job. He scored the winning run as the visitors completed their record chase. The defeat stopped India from completing a clean sweep in the ODI series.

However, India had already celebrated success in another format earlier in the day. Their T20I team beat Pakistan by 19 runs in the Asian Games men’s cricket final in Japan to retain the gold medal. They scored 211 for six before holding Pakistan to 192 for six.

Abhishek Sharma struck 61 off 28 balls, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 51 off 22. Hasan Nawaz scored 96 for Pakistan, but his effort was not enough.

India therefore played two international matches in two different formats on the same day. They won the T20 match against Pakistan in Japan before losing the ODI against West Indies later on Saturday.
