Long-term private investment will be critical to Bangladesh’s next phase of digital transformation as international investors bring capital, technology, innovation and global expertise, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said on Monday.
Speaking at an event marking Robi Axiata PLC’s 30 years of operations in Bangladesh at a hotel in Dhaka, he said combining these capabilities with the country’s young population, entrepreneurial spirit and growing digital skills could create new opportunities.
According to the minister, the telecommunications sector had undergone a major transformation over the past three decades, reshaping communication, employment, education, citizen services and business activities.
“A transparent, stable and investment-friendly policy environment is essential to ensure investor confidence,” Anam said, adding that continuous dialogue among the government, industry and stakeholders was needed to create an environment supportive of investment, innovation and sustainable growth.
The minister said artificial intelligence (AI), cloud technology, digital services and modern data infrastructure were creating new opportunities for economic growth and employment.
He called for collective efforts to build on the achievements of the past three decades and harness Bangladesh’s technological potential over the next 30 years.
At the event, Axiata Group Berhad Group CEO and Managing Director Nik Rizal Kamil said Robi’s 30-year journey reflected Bangladesh’s digital transformation.
“Starting as Aktel in 1997, Robi has become one of Bangladesh’s trusted partners in digital connectivity and innovative services,” Kamil said.
Axiata Group Berhad remains committed to long-term investment and strategic partnerships to support Bangladesh’s digital progress, he added.
The event was attended by Minister of State for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad Ul Bari, Robi Axiata PLC Managing Director and CEO Ziad Shatara, and senior officials from Axiata Group Berhad.
