The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has agreed in principle to introduce a six-team domestic cricket structure covering three formats, with team ownership rights to be offered to established corporate and financial institutions for an initial three-year period.
The decision came at the fourth meeting of the BCB Board of Directors on Sunday, with the board agreeing in principle to bring First Class four-day, List A One-Day and List A T20 cricket under a single six-team competition structure. Team ownership rights will be offered to established corporate and financial institutions for an initial three-year period, while the T20 competition will be the first event under the new model, with December 2026 set as the tentative window.
TIMES had earlier reported that the BCB was considering a six-team model with corporate ownership as part of a restructuring of the domestic game.
The board also approved revised match fees for domestic players. Men’s four-day cricket will carry a fee of Tk1.5 lakh per match, while players in one-day and T20 cricket will receive Tk1 lakh and Tk 80,000 respectively. The fee for NCL Second XI has been set at Tk15,000.
For women’s domestic cricket, players will receive Tk40,000 for three-day matches, Tk30,000 for one-day matches and Tk20,000 for T20 games. The board also doubled the Bangladesh Under-19 team’s daily allowance from Tk10,000 to Tk20,000.
On infrastructure, the BCB approved the installation of a three-lane, IAAF-approved athletic running track at the National Cricket Academy ground at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The facility will support cricketers’ training and fitness activities.
The board also approved upgrades to two alternative dressing rooms, the players’ entry area and the common lobby at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. In addition, two new dressing rooms will be constructed at the venue, allowing the existing Pavilion Building dressing rooms to be used primarily for international matches.
The BCB also approved the appointment of a consultant for architectural, engineering and project-preparation services for the proposed renovation and development of Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura.
