A young man was killed after being stabbed by unidentified assailants in Khulna city on Wednesday night.
The victim was identified as Mustakin, 28, son of Shahidul of the Alkatra Mill area in Sonadanga.
He was attacked in front of Talukder Community Centre under Sonadanga Police Station.
According to police and local residents, Mostakin was standing near the community centre beside Alkatora Mill around 8:30pm when four youths arrived on two motorcycles and attacked him with sharp weapons.
Locals rescued him and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Sonadanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rafiqul Islam said the attackers stabbed Mostakin in the back and waist near the community centre. He died from the injuries to his waist, the OC added.
Senior police officials visited the spot after receiving the information.
Police have launched an operation to identify and arrest those involved in the attack and determine the motive behind the killing.
