Law Minister Asaduzzaman on Wednesday said he hoped the chief justice and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon had resolved a dispute that prompted the chief justice and four other Appellate Division judges to leave the courtroom.

The incident took place on Tuesday during proceedings at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

The judges left the bench following remarks by Khokon, who reportedly said that the number of lawyers had declined since the appointment of the chief justice.

Asked about the matter on Wednesday, the law minister said he expected the issue between the chief justice and the Supreme Court Bar to have been settled.
“I hope the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court Bar have resolved the matter,” he said.

The minister said the issue concerned the internal relationship between the Bar and the Bench and that the two sides were capable of resolving it themselves.

“They are competent enough to decide when and how to resolve it,” he said.
