The Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate has honoured 40 officials and employees for exceptional bravery in operational activities and recognised 28 fire stations selected for outstanding operational and administrative performance. The awards were presented at the “Honour and Insignia Presentation” ceremony held at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters conference room in Dhaka on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal, NDC, AFWC, PSC, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate, presented the Director General’s Commendation insignia, certificates and cash awards to the selected officials and employees. Representatives of the 28 selected fire stations received honour crests at the event, which also saw 14 newly promoted Warehouse Inspectors receive rank badges from the Director General in the presence of directors.
The Director General called on officials to recognise and appreciate good work, saying such initiatives should continue regularly to improve the quality of Fire Service operations. He made the remarks at the ceremony, which began at 10:00 am at the headquarters conference room.
The event was attended by officials and employees from different levels. Director (Training, Planning and Development) Lt Col M A Azad Anwar, PSC, welcomed the Director General at the venue. The programme began with recitation from the Holy Scriptures by religious teacher Muhaddis Kazi Sharif Ullah.
The awards were given following a nationwide selection process conducted through committees formed in each division under the direction of the Director General. The selection criteria for the best fire stations included performance in pump drills, delivery hose layout, firefighting suit and breathing apparatus quick-dressing exercises, rescue equipment handling, ladder climbing, combined drills, maintenance of official registers, implementation of instructions, fuel management, equipment maintenance, public engagement activities, topography exercises, discipline standards between January 2025 and June 2026, cleanliness of station premises and barracks, and knowledge of social media usage.
Five fire stations each from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions and three stations each from other divisions were recognised. The selection process also considered operational and administrative activities carried out by stations across the country.
Among those receiving the Director General’s Commendation, Rajshahi district Assistant Director Farhad Hossain expressed gratitude for introducing the competition and award system. Newly promoted Warehouse Inspector Khaleda Yasmin thanked the Director General and relevant officials after receiving the promotion.
Director (Operations and Maintenance) Lt Col Md Mahmudul Hasan, PSC, remembered a recently deceased driver and inspector of the Fire Service in his remarks. Director (Administration and Finance) Md Shahid Atahar Hossain highlighted progress in the organisation’s administrative activities and thanked the Director General.
In his speech as chief guest, Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal praised Fire Service personnel for their operational response during various accidents across the country and instructed officials to continue such programmes to enhance service quality.
Project directors, the Managing Director of Welfare Trust, deputy directors of the directorate and officials and employees working in Dhaka attended the programme in person. Officials from divisions and districts joined online from their respective workplaces. The ceremony concluded at 12:30 pm.
