State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said the government will introduce a mid-day meal programme in all government primary schools across Bangladesh from next year.
He made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon during an exchange of views with local media representatives at the Jashore PTI Auditorium.
The adviser said mid-day meals are currently being provided to 3 million students in 191 upazilas across the country.
Bobby Hajjaj said the government is planning to replace the existing five types of dry food items with cooked meals for students. A pilot project will be launched initially, and if successful, the programme will be expanded nationwide.
Earlier, Bobby Hajjaj attended a day-long training workshop as the chief guest titled “Classroom Activities, Monitoring, Accountability and Changing Expectations from Local Administration”.
The workshop, organised by the Khulna Divisional Primary Education Office, was attended by teachers studying at the PTI.
Primary and Mass Education Ministry Joint Secretary Matiar Rahman, Director of the Primary Education Department (Stipend) Masud Hossain and other senior officials were also present at the event.
