Despite successive concessions aimed at reducing non-performing assets, defaulted loans in the country’s banking sector have surged once again to cross Tk6 lakh crore mark.
At the end of June 2026, the volume of classified or defaulted loans in the banking sector stood at Tk606,555 crore. This volume represents 32.78 per cent of the total loans disbursed across the country.
The latest figures highlight a deteriorating trend compared to the previous quarter.
At the end of March, defaulted loans were recorded at Tk588,704 crore, which accounted for 32.26 per cent of the total disbursed loans at the time.
These figures reveal that defaulted loans increased by a substantial Tk17,851 crore in the span of just three months. Concurrently, the ratio of defaulted loans grew by 0.52 percentage points during this period.
