Six more people have died from measles and suspected measles across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning, while 1,159 new people have developed measles-like symptoms, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Another 72 people were confirmed to have measles during the same period, according to the DGHS’s regular measles situation report released on Tuesday.
The report said 880 children have died with suspected measles since 15 March.
During the same period, 99 children have died from confirmed measles.
Combined, the number of deaths from confirmed measles and suspected measles has reached 979 since 15 March.
With the addition of 72 newly confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, the total number of confirmed measles cases recorded in the country since 15 March has risen to 19,384.
Meanwhile, 1,159 new people developed measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative number of people with suspected measles symptoms to 159,150 during the period.
According to DGHS data, 1,39,519 people with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals since 15 March. Of them, 134,458 have recovered and been discharged after receiving treatment.
The government has also decided to administer an additional 16 lakh measles vaccine doses as part of efforts to contain the outbreak.
