Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said a special unit, backed by support from the country’s intelligence agencies, has been formed to recover looted and illegal weapons.
To expedite the recovery process, the government has declared the rewards for citizens who provide information on various categories of weapons.
Salahuddin made this announcement during a press conference held in front of Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh, Dhaka on Saturday.
Informants who provide details leading to the recovery of heavy weapons will receive a reward of up to Tk2 lakh. For information on pistols, revolvers, and shotguns, the reward is set at Tk50,000.
Meanwhile, intelligence leading to the seizure of sound grenades and tear gas will be rewarded with Tk10,000 to Tk20,000.
Salahuddin assured that the identities of all informants will be kept strictly secret. During the briefing, he said law enforcement forces will be more strategic in suppressing terrorism and extortion.
The home minister issued a stern warning that action will be taken against law enforcement officers who fail to suppress extortion and terrorism within their specified timeframes.
Nationwide discussions have been held with police officers to improve the overall law and order situation and to ensure that the police force can successfully meet public expectations.
The home minister emphasised that law enforcement agencies must work in a more effective and co-ordinated manner to guarantee public safety and maintain a normal law and order situation.
