A 50‑kilometre tailback on the Dhaka‑bound lane of the Dhaka–Chattogram highway left thousands of passengers stranded from Friday night into Saturday morning.
Highway police said the congestion began in Ashiar Char, Narayanganj, where bridge repair work was underway, and later stretched to Kutumbpur in Cumilla’s Chandina upazila, reports UNB.
Mohammad Hossain said his nephew had a flight from Dhaka at noon on Saturday, but they were stuck in Daudkandi overnight. “I hired a van to continue towards Dhaka. I don’t know if we will reach the airport in time,” he said.
Local journalist Mahmud Hasan said he was trapped in Kutumbpur around 4:30am. “At first I thought it was an accident. Later police told me it was due to repair work,” he said.
Prem Das Roy, officer‑in‑charge of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, said one lane was closed from 6pm Friday to 6am Saturday for repairs. “Both lanes have reopened. We hope the situation will return to normal by noon,” he added.
