Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that no one involved in mob violence will be spared, with action being taken against all who have been found to be involved. No matter how powerful the offender is, they will be tracked down and brought to book, said the adviser.

The home adviser made these remarks during a briefing to journalists after inspecting the Industrial Police Headquarters and Uttara East Police Station in the capital Monday afternoon.

The adviser said that, although the number of mob incidents has decreased significantly compared to before, such incidents have recently occurred again in some areas.

“We are taking a very strict stance on this matter,” he said, mentioning that seven people have already been arrested in connection with an incident in Rangpur.

He said that those who commit partake in such wrongdoings will not be allowed to remain in the area. “They will be identified and legal action will be taken. If anyone is found involved in mob violence in the future, they too will be brought under the law.”

He further stated that, in the past, we did not receive much news about mob incidents or similar crimes. Now, thanks to media and information technology, all information is quickly available.

Regarding the Industrial Police, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that this important unit of the police is facing a manpower shortage. Despite this, the Industrial Police is working hard to resolve various issues in the country’s industrial sector.

The adviser noted that as the number of industries and factories in the country is increasing day by day, there is a need to enhance the manpower and capacity of this force. He added that the government is already working to address this issue.

Pointing out some problems at the Uttara East Police Station, the adviser said that after inspecting the station, efforts are underway to identify and resolve them. The issue of their washroom has already been resolved.

In response to journalists’ questions about the national election, the adviser said that creating an election-friendly environment is not only the responsibility of law enforcement agencies. The Election Commission, administration, concerned officials, and political parties participating in the elections must also be prepared.

He stated, “We have no shortcomings in our preparations. We are working towards organising a fair election and taking all necessary steps to maintain law and order.”

He added that the government will continue to provide all kinds of support to ensure a fair and impartial election with the participation of all parties.

The Chief of Industrial Police, Additional IGP Gazi Jasim Uddin, and other senior police officials from various levels were also present.
