An extortion case has been filed against personal secretary to Shahjahan Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami leader and lawmaker from Chattogram‑15, and five others.
They are accused of demanding Tk20 lakh in extortion, looting goods from a shop, assault, and issuing death threats.
Amir Hossain, a resident of West Kolauzan in Lohagara, filed the case against Arman Uddin with the Chattogram Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.
The court took cognisance of the case and directed the additional superintendent of police of Satkania circle to investigate and submit a report.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Adnan Kabir Jilan confirmed the matter.
Apart from Arman Uddin, his brother Arif Uddin, Shaukat Ali of Lohagara, Adil, Anwar, and Zainal Abedin. Four to five unidentified persons were also named as accused in the case.
According to the case, the plaintiff owns a four‑storey building at Aziz Complex in Lohagara, constructed in 2006‑07 on the land he purchased. The ground floor houses a furniture shop, while other portions are rented out as residences.
Arman along with others had been demanding Tk20 in extortion, threatening to seize the building and market if he refused. They allegedly told him he must pay because he came from another area to live in theirs.
Satkania Circle Additional SP Md Ariful Islam Siddiqui said he had not yet received the court’s letter. “Once the letter is received, the allegations will be investigated, verified, and further details will be known through the court proceedings,” he said.
