The bodies of two children who went missing 14.5 hours earlier were recovered from a pond in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Rohan Miah, 7, son of Hazrat Ali, and Ismail Miah, 6, son of Obaidul Aslam, both of Madhyanakshi village under Kolaspar union.
Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman confirmed the recovery.
According to police and locals, the children left their respective homes on Sunday afternoon and went missing.
After they failed to return, their families searched for them but could not find them.
At dawn on Monday, locals spotted their bodies floating in a pond and recovered them with the help of villagers.
Locals said the two children occasionally went into nearby water bodies to catch fish but did not know how to swim properly.
OC Ashrafuzzaman said necessary measures were being taken.
