Referring to the Mujib family, National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam said a few people who created dictatorship and fascism in Bangladesh have become the owners of all the property.
People of this country broke this land ownership system through a mass uprising, he added.
Nahid said, “If a new land ownership system is created, if new tyrants, fascists and extortionists emerge, we will have to fight against it and speak out against it.”
“We must ensure that we don’t create a new culture of fear in Bangladesh. If we see any injustice or oppression, we must protest.”
Nahid made the statement at the inauguration ceremony and brief meeting of his party’s office at Atwari upazila town of Panchagarh around 11:30 am on Friday.
In a separate programme in Thakurgaon, Nahid said they would declare its charter for the freedom of the countrymen on August 3.
“We will build a new Bangladesh free from autocracy and fascism where there will be no discrimination, no fascism. We will no longer allow anyone to become a dictator in this country,” he said while addressing a rally at Pirganj municipality in Thakurgaon.
The NCP is holding a series of rallies across the country marking its “July March to Rebuild the Nation” campaign.
Nahid said it is harder to uphold the independence than to achieve it.
“We are now fighting to build a new country which will be free from discrimination, fascism, injustice, terrorism, or extortion. For this, the youth must come forward. Every time the youth of this country have risen for the national interest, they have succeeded,” he said.
Nahid said they demand the right to food, the right to education, and the right to proper healthcare.
“We will not serve as agents of any foreign country. Even if we have to shed blood, we will rebuild this country to protect the rights of its people,” he said, asking the partymen to remain vigilant so that the current freedom is not lost.
NCP central leaders, including member secretary Akhtar Hossain, chief organizer (Norther region) Sarjis Alam, chief organizer (Southern region) Hasnat Abdullah, senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zarah, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari and senior joint convenor Samanta Sharmin, among others, were also present at the programme.
Afterward, the party leaders and activists set off for Dinajpur.
