Former Chairman and Director of Pubali Bank PLC Moniruddin Ahmed, an educationist and social philanthropist, died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in London, the bank said in a press release.
Ahmed passed away at 2:00pm Bangladesh time. He served as chairman of Pubali Bank, the country’s largest private sector bank, from 2001 to 2002 and remained a director of the bank from 1984 to 2025.
The Board of Directors of Pubali Bank PLC, along with all executives, officers and employees, expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.
At the time of his death, Ahmed was survived by his wife, son and daughter, along with numerous relatives, colleagues and well-wishers.
Ahmed was the founder of Monir Ahmed Academy, a private cadet college. He was recognised for his contributions to education and social philanthropy alongside his long association with the banking sector.
Pubali Bank said his contributions as a former chairman and long-serving director would be remembered by the institution.
