Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed the government’s firm commitment to transforming demographic potential into the power of sustainable development by ensuring a healthy, educated, and dignified life for every citizen.
In a message issued on the eve of World Population Day 2026, the prime minister highlighted that the government is working tirelessly to build a prosperous, inclusive, and self-reliant Bangladesh.
This is being pursued through human resource development, the expansion of universal healthcare, the strengthening of family planning activities, and the empowerment of women and youth.
Tarique noted that a key objective of the national development journey is to turn the potential of young people into the driving force of national progress.
To achieve this, the government is implementing multidimensional initiatives that integrate education, skill development, employment, healthcare, and family planning.
Highlighting this year’s theme “Realising the hopes and aspirations of young people today and for the future,” Tarique said it is deeply aligned with the national development philosophy.
“The future of Bangladesh depends on a generation that is educated, skilled, technology-friendly, healthy, humane, and innovative,” the prime minister said.
Tarique emphasised that the state must ensure an environment where youth can access quality education, employment opportunities, and advanced healthcare to build safe and happy families based on their capabilities and values.
The prime minister described today’s youth as the primary strength of an information technology-based and knowledge-based economy. He reaffirmed the government’s pledge to create a Bangladesh where every young person can prove their competence in domestic and global labour markets through modern skills.
The message further stressed that economic security, social stability, and an improved health system are essential for youth to plan their futures and make conscious decisions regarding responsible family formation.
To this end, the government is working to ensure affordable, quality, and accountable healthcare for all, alongside expanding technology-dependent health services.
However, Tarique identified child marriage, adolescent motherhood, and malnutrition as significant barriers to the progress of the younger generation.
The prime minister warned that these issues have long-term impacts on human resource development, educational continuity, women’s empowerment, and national productivity.
In response, the government is implementing integrated programmes to prevent child marriage, expand quality sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents, and strengthen life-skills-based education.
Concluding his message, Tarique expressed his firm belief that if every young person is given equal opportunities to grow up healthy and confident, they will become the main architects of a developed Bangladesh.
The prime minister called upon the nation to work together to build a safe, prosperous, and humane future where the aspirations of the youth are fully realised.
