The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has arrested a drug dealer along with a quantity of cannabis during a raid in Kalitara area of Noakhali Sadar Upazila.
The arrestee, identified as Md Shahid Ullah, 52, son of late Sekandar Mia, was apprehended red-handed from his residence in Kalitara Jalial area of the municipality late on Tuesday night. It is reported that he is locally known as a “cannabis peddler”.
According to DNC sources, Shahid had been retailing cannabis at various drug spots in Kalitara and its surrounding areas for an extended period.
Acting on this information, officials conducted a combing operation at his home, resulting in the recovery of 2.4 kg of cannabis, Tk17,000 in cash earned from drug sales, a digital weighing scale, and a mobile phone.
Confirming the operation, DNC Deputy Director (Noakhali District Office) Subrata Sarkar Shuvo said their crackdown on drugs would continue and no one involved in the illicit trade would be spared.
DNC Inspector Mohammad Saiful Islam will act as the plaintiff in a regular case to be filed against the suspect at Sudharam Model Police Station under Narcotics Control Act.
