Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two Bangladeshi nationals while they attempted to cross illegally into India via the Nalitabari border area, the force confirmed on Thursday afternoon.

The detainees, Md Samiul Haque, 24, and Rabia Khatun, 36, both residents of Jaharchanga village in Savar Upazila, Dhaka, were apprehended late Wednesday night in the Burunga area of Nalitabari Upazila.

BGB sources said a patrol team from Baromari BOP under Mymensingh Battalion 39, led by Subedar Moniruzzaman, intercepted the pair approximately 1,000 yards inside Bangladesh near border pillar 1112. Following initial questioning, BGB filed a case at Nalitabari Police Station and handed over the two suspects.

The BGB added that regular patrols and monitoring along the border will continue to prevent illegal crossings.

Nalitabari Police Sub-Inspector Hannan confirmed the arrests and said the detainees have been sent to the Sherpur court for further proceedings.
