Police have arrested a 60-year-old man, Rahat Pramanik, on charges of attempting to rape a four-year-old child in Ishwardi, Pabna. Following the incident, the victim’s family filed a case at Ishwardi Police Station, and the accused was sent to jail via the court on Sunday morning.
The incident took place around 12:30pm on Saturday in the Gorgori area of Sahapur Union. Both the accused and the victim are residents of the same locality.
According to the case statement, the child was playing in her house’s courtyard on Saturday afternoon when Rahat craftily took her into a room. When he attempted to assault her, the child began to scream. Her mother and other locals, alerted by the noise, rushed to the scene, causing the accused to flee.
The child later received primary treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, they faced intimidation and various obstacles from Tushar Hossain when attempting to lodge a formal complaint at the police station.
Asadur Rahman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, confirmed the matter, stating that a case has been registered by the child’s family.
He added that the police arrested Rahat after recording the child’s statement and finding preliminary truth to the allegations.
