Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury has instructed all factory owners across the country to disburse workers’ Eid bonuses and monthly wages by 21 May, ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
The directive came during the 95th Tripartite Consultative Council (TCC) meeting and the 24th RMG Tripartite Consultative Council meeting held Thursday at the CIRDAP International Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The sessions were presided over by Labour and Employment Secretary Abdur Rahman Tarafder, with the Labour Minister attending as chief guest.
Worker representatives assured the government that timely payment of wages and bonuses would prevent any industrial unrest or labour disputes.
They also called for swift government action against factories that have yet to clear outstanding wages and requested special transportation arrangements, including buses, trains, and launches, to facilitate workers’ Eid travel.

The minister emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring safe and smooth travel for workers during the holiday.
To reduce traffic congestion, he instructed factories to grant leave in phases, following mutual agreements between employers and workers.
Local administration, district police, and industrial police have been tasked with overseeing timely payments and maintaining safety.
Additionally, the Ministry of Shipping announced a 10 percent fare reduction for ships and launches on all routes to ease workers’ travel.
The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that law enforcement agencies are on alert to handle any unexpected situations.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the labour ministry, Bangladesh Employers’ Federation President Fazle Shamim Ehsan, Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain, and representatives from both the employer and worker sides.
