Comedian and television host Conan O’Brien will return to host the Oscars in 2027, marking his third consecutive year leading Hollywood’s biggest awards ceremony.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday that O’Brien will host the 99th Academy Awards, which will air live on ABC and Hulu from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 14, 2027.
Executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan will also return for a fourth consecutive year, while Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney are set to continue as producers. Sweeney will additionally serve as writer for the ceremony.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy president Lynette Howell Taylor praised the returning team in a joint statement.
“We are thrilled to be working again with Conan, Raj, Katy, Jeff and Mike for the 99th Oscars,” they said. “They are an incredible team and have produced such captivating, entertaining and heartfelt shows over the last two years.”
They added: “We are so grateful for their ongoing partnership as we honour our global film community and we look forward to Conan superbly leading the celebration with his brilliance and humour.”
O’Brien received positive reviews for his hosting performance at this year’s ceremony in March. Following the broadcast, Disney Television executive Rob Mills hinted that the network hoped to keep him in the role long term.
“Conan is host for life,” Mills joked at the time.
Known for programmes including ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’, ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien’ and ‘Conan’, the comedian currently hosts the podcast ‘Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend’ and the travel series ‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’. He has won six Primetime Emmy Awards and received 33 nominations throughout his career.
Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich said O’Brien had brought “remarkable energy” to the Oscars.
“His singular comedic voice makes Hollywood’s biggest night one of the most entertaining celebrations of the year,” he said.
Kapoor and Mullan also praised their continued collaboration with O’Brien.
“He brings that signature humour everyone loves, along with a real warmth and generosity that carry through the entire show,” they said in a joint statement.
Disney currently holds the broadcast rights to the Oscars through the 100th Academy Awards in 2028. After that, the ceremony is expected to move to YouTube and relocate to the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles from 2029.
