The measles outbreak continues to take a heavy toll on children across the country, with 11 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours, according to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The report, released on Sunday morning, said four children died from measles and seven others died from measles-like symptoms in the 24-hour period ending at 8am.
With the latest figures, a total of 344 children have now died from measles-like symptoms since 15 March, the DGHS said. Among them, 65 deaths have been officially confirmed as caused by measles.
The report said 205 new children were diagnosed with measles in the last 24 hours, while 1,278 children were hospitalised with measles-like symptoms.
Across the country, 1,503 children showed measles-like symptoms during this period. The highest number of hospitalised children, 496, were from the Dhaka division.
Among the four children who died from measles, three were residents of the Dhaka division and one was from the Barishal division.
Of the seven children who died from measles-like symptoms, three were from Dhaka, while two each died in the Sylhet and Chattogram divisions.
In a positive sign, 1,116 children who had been hospitalised with measles-like symptoms were discharged during the same period. Among them, 443 were from the Dhaka division.
According to DGHS data, a total of 49,159 children have shown measles-like symptoms across the country since 15 March. Among them, 34,909 have been hospitalised, and 6,819 have been diagnosed with measles.
So far, 30,862 children have recovered and returned home from hospitals.
