A Noakhali tribunal has sentenced a man to death for killing of schoolgirl Tasnia Hossain Adita in 2022.
The convict, Abdur Rahim Rony, was Adita’s private tutor.
Judge Mohammad Khorshedul Alam Shikdar of Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal‑1 delivered the verdict, said Public Prosecutor Md Selim Shahi.
The judgment date was initially set for 15 April, but it was deferred until Wednesday (29 April).
According to case records, police recovered Adita’s body on 22 September 2022, from Jahan Manzil in Lakshmi Narayanpur area of Noakhali municipality.
Police arrested Rony, who later confessed to the crime and gave a statement under Section 164. Based on his confession, investigators seized a knife and other evidence used in the killing.
Adita was daughter of the Riaz Hossain Sarkar of Lakshmi Narayanpur and Razia Sultana, a teacher at a private school in Begumganj.
The killing sparked widespread outrage among students and locals in Noakhali and beyond, leading to protests, human chains, and road blockades demanding justice.
