Storms with speeds of up to 80 km/h may lash five regions of Bangladesh, while eight other areas can expect winds up to 60 km/h, along with rain or thundershowers.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) confirmed the matter in a weather warning for inland river ports valid until 6pm on Monday.
According to the bulletin, temporary gusty or squally storms from the west or north-west may blow at speeds of 60 to 80 km/h over the Rangpur, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, and Sylhet regions. Rain or thundershowers are likely during this period.
Consequently, inland river ports in these areas have been advised to hoist riverine warning signal number 2.
Moreover, during the same period, temporary gusty or squally storms from the same direction, with speeds of 45 to 60 km/h, may occur over the Dhaka, Madaripur, Faridpur, Comilla, Noakhali, Barishal, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar regions. Rain or thundershowers are also expected in these locations.
River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist warning signal number 1.
Meanwhile, another notification from the weather office stated that deep convective clouds are forming and may persist over the northern part of the country and its adjacent areas. Under its influence, heavy (44 to 88 mm in 24 hours) to very heavy (more than 88 mm in 24 hours) rainfall may occur in parts of the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions over the next few days.
The Met office warned that due to the heavy to very heavy rainfall, temporary waterlogging may occur in some places within these regions.
